Activity 1: “The 5 Ws and the H”
The first paragraph of a news story is called the opening lead. After answering the 5 Ws and the H (who, what, when, where, why, and how), reporters asked themselves, “If I can tell the reader only one more thing, what would it be?” Here are the facts of an imaginary news story. Write a paragraph with the 5 Ws and the H. Decide the order to tell what happened. Finish the story yourself, adding other details in the order you think is important.
